1987 Majorette Pontiac Fiero

The Majorette Pontiac Fiero was produced between 1985 and 1991 and released in at least 20 different variations. Of those, I now have three, since adding this version that I recently scored from my Wichita eBay connection. The cool thing about this casting is the way the body colors of the car are created using layers of separate plastic parts, each molded in different pigments. In this case, the top body section is white, the bottom is blue, and there is a red section (which also makes up the interior of the car) sandwiched in between. This model also has orange-tinted windows, extra-large O wheels and a flashy tampo design. It is cast in France and has an unpainted metal base.

The other two examples of the Majorette Pontiac Fiero in my collection are a yellow, red and blue version from 1986 and a red, white and black model from 1989.

1976 Tomica School Bus

Of the 60 or so cars I recently brought home from R&S Resale, this Tomica School Bus from 1976 is one of my favorites. It was the only Tomica I found there, but it’s in very nice shape. I still have all of the Tomica Pocket Cars that I bought at Woolworth when I was a kid. I liked the brand then because of its accuracy to real vehicles (at a time when Hot Wheels and Matchbox seemed to be trying to outdo each other with weirdness) and this model is an excellent example of that.

For comparison, the Hot Wheels S’Cool Bus from the 1971 Heavyweights series is a funny car with a hinged body that opens to reveal a pair of dual blown engines. However, they did eventually tone it down a bit with the more realistic 1989 School Bus from the Workhorses series (click to see my example).
